March Challenge Update & April Goal

Again, this month’s review of the challenge is a little late (again, apologies – blame the Easter Bunny).

March’s Goal – Launch a Website: Complete!

Yes! I finally pushed a website I had out of the door from one of the domains I had. Hurrah! The website – if you cannot tell from the banner at the top – was Wrestling Betting. It is a domain I’ve held for a while, ever since I had a run of 6 Pay-Per-Views where I predicted the result of every single match perfectly last summer, and it was just when twitter accounts such as @FootyAccums & @HashtagBetting were beginning to become popular, so I bought the domain and sat on it until the end of last month.

Anyway, had some great ideas to push it, one of which from Britannia Wrestling which is brilliant and could result in me not walking for days afterwards, but I’m seeing how it does in Wrestlemania Season in terms of traffic and people viewing it. Would love to grow it into a more substantial idea, and keen to get your thoughts on what to add to it. It’s basic at the moment, but will be adding to it! But for now, please have a read of my Wrestlemania 29 Predictions on the site.

You can also like Wrestling Betting on Facebook and follow @Wrestlingbets on Twitter.

April’s Goal – I’m Not Telling!

Yes. There is a big goal for April. It’s actually massive and could be life changing, but I cannot say what it is. A few people know what it is though, but

The worst thing is a few choice people know. I’d love to sing it from the rooftops, but I cannot.

But all I can say it’s exciting, and it may involve a party. Keep your evening’s free.

February Challenge Update & March Goal

Apologies for the small delay in the blog post. I completely missed a blog post last week, which is practically inexcusable, as I do have posts to post. I celebrated my 29th birthday last Monday (Happy Birthday to Me!) and generally spent most of the week either celebrating or recovering.

I have also have some amazing news on the horizon on the next couple of months, which may take quite a bit of my time, so I’m not sure how much time I’ll spend on this site for the next couple of months. Next months’ goal for example is “fucking finish what is causing the amazing news”, so that’s all sorted! But onto this month’s goal & last month’s.

February’s Goal – Decluttering: Complete! (ish)

Yes! I managed to declutter a fair bit from my room and domain portfolio, making about £100 in the process. Money which is appreciated as in under two weeks I am heading to Glasgow to watch Wales play Scotland in the footy (as well as the bonus attraction of Glasgow Rangers vs Stirling Albion the next day – Scottish Division 3 doesn’t get the International break that higher leagues do). It wasn’t without it’s faults, here were a few things that could’ve scuppered me:-

eBay  Throttling My Listings

I talked about this briefly in another one of my other posts, but something I didn’t realise was eBay would only allow 10 items (or £500 value items) for new sellers. As somebody who rarely dabbles in eBay, this was frustrating as I had to split my listings up over two days, nearly missing the February deadline.

Bad/Late Payers

So I had two auctions won, however at the time of writing I’ve still to receive payments for. They were also fairly high selling items, so I’m a bit gutted to not get the cash in my back pocket yet. I’ve chased and chased, and not sure what to do if I’m honest. eBay don’t exactly support sellers over buyers, so I’m thinking I may have to suck it up and relist. Boo hoo.

Godaddy

What a bunch of monumental weapons. You see, I snapped up a domain on backorder a few years ago, and it came with a “free domain monitoring service” which automatically links me with the domain. However, after realising I had fuck all to write about Belgium I sold it to a friend of mine. Said friend has let it lapse, Godaddy paced it into auction and because I have the “free domain monitoring service” still on my account they very kindly put in a bid for the domain. A bid that wasn’t matched, and I now once again own  said domain.

I’m not happy. It’s not expensive, but frustrating as GoDaddy have been as helpful as a chocolate teapot, often throwing answers in legalese to me. In this one dickish move, they are losing me as a customer. Sucks to be you, Godaddy.

March’s Goal – Launch a Website

And so onto March’s goal – it is to get a website out of the door. I’ve been sitting on a domain for about 3 or 4 months for an idea that I’ve never even started, so decided to launch a website by March 31st.

I’ve bought the domain name, secure the Twitter & Facebook accounts for it and invested a little bit of money for advertising. The domain however is going to try and make money, and I have a plan for doing so. Wish me luck!

Buy My Stuff!

Don’t worry, this isn’t a post on me hawking WP Email Capture.

So yes, if you remember my goal for February is to declutter. It’s going well, a sober weekend saw me break the back of most of the work I needed to do, and have well and truly cleared my desk. I also went on an eBay splurge, and managed to clear a bunch of stuff and list it online. Hurrah!

clutter3

Yes, that’s most of the stuff I’ve listed online. But not all. You see, for some reason eBay in their infinite wisdom have put limits as to what you can sell in a month. You see, I should’ve sold about 15 items, I’m only allowed to sell 10 a month.

ebay-request
Curses! When did this happen?

Anyway, as a few of you asked, the items I am selling are below. Bid high, bid often, bid aggressively. Thank you.

(PPS. Snowed under with a few projects, back early next week with proper non shilly post)

January Challenge Update and My Goal for February

If you have followed my January 2013 challenge intently, you will have spotted that the spreadsheet used to track my goal came to an abrupt halt on the 10th January. You probably can guess why.

January Challenge: Dry-ish-athlon – Failed

Yes, I failed. I can’t remember exactly what happened on the 10th, but I buckled. The final nail in the coffin was ironically on a date to the cinema, to see The Hobbit. So I’m not one to hold a grudge and point fingers, but I’m blaming Martin Freeman. The mop headed demon to sobriety that he is.

As promised, I’d have a forfeit if I failed, and that is quite simply that I’m doubling the donation to John Boy to a tenner, as he has succeeded (well as of two days ago). You can donate to him here.

February Challenge: Declutter

Behold my life. It’s a mess. The image at the top are my shelves of everything I’ve obtained in the two and a bit years living in Manchester. My desk is much worse, as you can see here:-

clutter2

So yeah, my desk is as cluttered as my mind, and like my mind, the desk is full of half finished ideas. Take for example the Pringles Tube. My plan is to put dried spaghetti into it (I love jars for sundries, I hate plastic bags), I’ve still not done so. It’s a Christmas Pringle Tube, for fuck’s sake.

So anyway, by March the 1st my desk and my shelves will be a bit more decluttered. To measure it, I’ll sell at least the following:-

  • 5 Books or Video Games
  • 1 Websites or Web Domains

Also have a less cluttered desk and wardrobe (yeah, that’s a mess too).

The forfeit is simple. If I don’t sell them, I’ll just give some stuff away. This will be probably either through this blog or in a charity bag.

I’m not sure of a reward, but it will probably be I’ll do something nice with the money raised.

Goal for January: Dry-ish-athlon

It seems that along with my blog, a good friend of mine John Wilson has also started a blog. I’d like to take credit as the inspirational thought leader muthaluvva that I am, but I can’t. In John’s first blog post, he talks briefly about 2012 and what he achieved, and he achieved a fair bit!

However interestingly he is also setting goals for the year, resolutions that are likely to be forgotten, oh no, he’s setting goals for the month. The first one, detailed in his post, is to complete the Dryathlon, which is giving up the sauce for 30 days for cancer research.

Brilliant! I thought.

As such, I’m also jumping on the monthly challenge bandwagon. My Goals for 2013 are still valid, but each month I will set myself a challenge, at the end of the month I’ll review to see if the challenge is a failure or a success.

Hell, it’s content for this site, and it’ll make my life more interesting. Even Matt Cutts recommends it.

It also marks the first time I’ve listened to what Matt Cutts has said and implemented it since June 2007.

As such, my goal for January is to drink less.

No, I’m not doing the Dryathlon. I’ve failed already: TNA are in Manchester at the end of January and have kind of promised a couple of my mates that we’ll have a few beers before the show, so that’s a no-goer, but hopefully before that Friday, I’ll have drank very little.

Incidentally, rather than just “drink less”, I’m instead going to set a target. I did a bit of research on the NHS website on the amount of alcohol each drink contained, as well as the recommended alcohol intake for a man in a week, and then decided to scrap the figures, and instead go for this goal:-

I will drink a maximum of 10 pints (or the alcoholic equivalent – 20 units) in January

I’m tracking my drinks using a Google Doc I’ve put together for the month, you can see it here. Providing I don’t drink 10 pints in one session, I should be able to remember what I’ve drunk where and update accordingly. I’ve also identified two things to target.

  • Go See More Movies – The pub is pretty much the de-facto thing to do when bored, but here’s the thing – I’ve started recently going to movies instead when I’m bored. Largely due to the fact most people who know me know that I’ve got glaring gaps in my movie knowledge, I’ve decided to put it right. Hell, January I was planning only going to see The Hobbit, but can do more films.
  • Not take the TNA in Manchester Day Off – In truth, the only two stumbling blocks I can forsee are at the end of the month, which is the aforementioned TNA UK Tour and Colwyn Bay are playing Brackley Town the day after. Both of those will be relatively boozy. As such, I’m going to avoid taking the whole day off for TNA in Manchester, but instead opting for half a day off. This reduces the drinking time, plus also creates a journey from town to my house and back again. The hope is then to meet my compatriots a little bit later on in the day, probably not even in the pub, so we can enjoy the show relatively clear headed (I’m not used to drinking at wrestling, largely being a performer, so it’s no big deal).

Providing I can do those two things, I should be fine.

I’m also imposing a forfeit (if I fail) as well as a reward (if I succeed). They will be announced on the challenge completion. Wish me luck!

Also, you can follow John Boy’s descent into soberity madness on Twitter, and you can donate to Cancer Research to support him on Justgiving.
